NEWS/PR: David Douglas School District Celebrates Major Milestone in Bond Project with Topping Off Ceremony at New CTE Facility
CTE topping off ceremony, with community “signing” of the final timber beam before it gets put in place.
Portland, OR – The David Douglas School District (DDSD) reached an exciting milestone in its 2022 Bond Program with a special Topping Off Ceremony and BBQ lunch hosted by Pence Contractors. This significant event marked the final timber beam placement, symbolizing the structural completion of the new facility. Students, district leaders, project teams, and community members gathered to celebrate this achievement, with everyone signing the ceremonial beam before it was set into place.
Designed by the amazing team at BRIC Architecture, the new facility is set to transform the educational landscape for David Douglas students, bringing cutting-edge learning environments to life. From modernized classrooms to specialized spaces that enhance Career and Technical Education (CTE) opportunities, these enhancements will foster hands-on learning experiences that prepare students for success beyond graduation.
“Getting to participate in the Topping Off Event, and seeing this project come to fruition is an inspiring moment for the students, educators, and the entire David Douglas community,” said Adam Cormack, Principal Partner | Sr. Program Manager of R&C Management Group. “The Topping Off Ceremony not only celebrates the incredible teamwork behind this project, but also the bright future ahead for the students as they gain access to new learning spaces this facility will provide. The success of the 2022 Bond and this project is a testament to the community’s commitment to investing in the futures of the students in the David Douglas School District.”
Students were invited to speak at the ceremony, and tour the construction site, where they shared their excitement about how the new facilities will elevate their educational experience. The inclusion of expanded vocational training and CTE-focused areas will provide students with valuable skills and career pathways that align with workforce needs in Oregon, the Pacific Northwest, and beyond.
The new CTE facility will serve as the district’s hub for educational programs in automotive technology, health sciences, engineering, computer information systems, business, and other career-focused curricula for David Douglas High School students.
The David Douglas School District continues to gain recognition for its commitment to academic and vocational excellence.
