BLOG: What Thanksgiving Means to the team at R&C Management Group
As Thanksgiving approaches, the team at R&C Management Group reflects on the traditions, dishes, and moments that make this holiday special. We asked our team members to share their favorite Thanksgiving memories and tips, and their responses highlight the warmth and joy that this season brings.
Cherished Traditions
For many of us, Thanksgiving is about more than just a meal; it's a time to create lasting memories with loved ones. One team member shared their tradition of getting a flocked Christmas tree from a farm in Boring the weekend before Thanksgiving. They decorate it on Thanksgiving evening to kick off the holiday season, followed by a day downtown to enjoy festive decorations and the Portland tree-lighting ceremony. Another team member values the simplicity of slowing down and enjoying quality time with family, while others cherish family walks after dinner to see Christmas lights and burn off some calories. Cutting down a Christmas tree with family is also a beloved tradition for some, marking the start of the holiday festivities.
Favorite Dishes and Desserts
Thanksgiving dinner wouldn't be complete without our favorite dishes. Among the team, a cooked-in-turkey stuffing and green bean casserole are popular choices. One member always goes back for seconds of the stuffing, while another can't resist roasted Brussels sprouts with bacon. When it comes to dessert, the classic pumpkin pie reigns supreme, with some enjoying it with whipped cream and others savoring it as a rare treat. A unique favorite is the Peter Pan salad, a layered dish of graham crackers, marshmallows, nuts, and jello. And for one team member, the tradition of having pie for breakfast the morning after Thanksgiving is a must!
Reflections and Gratitude
Thanksgiving is also a time for reflection and gratitude. When asked which historical figure they would invite to Thanksgiving dinner, one team member chose Squanto, to better understand his life and how European Americans can make amends for that period in history. Others were torn between Mark Twain and Benjamin Franklin, both known for their wit, intelligence, and storytelling. This year, our team is most thankful for the resources and opportunities available now that weren't there four years ago, the blessings of family and friends, and the health and happiness of their loved ones. There is a shared sense of immense gratitude amongst the team to work with such amazing clients throughout Oregon and Washington, and serving their wonderful communities, it’s an honor.
Tips for a Stress-Free Thanksgiving
To make the holiday more enjoyable, our team shared some valuable tips. One suggestion is to take the schedule out of the equation: plan to do less in more time to fully enjoy each moment. Avoid the chaos of last-minute shopping on Thanksgiving Day, and if the weather permits, sneak out for a round of golf in the morning. A popular cooking tip is to "spatchcock" the turkey, which roasts faster and results in more tender meat, freeing up the oven for all the delicious sides.
At R&C Management Group, Thanksgiving is a time to celebrate the bonds we share, the traditions we cherish, and the gratitude we feel for the blessings in our lives.
We wish everyone a joyful and peaceful Thanksgiving filled with love, laughter, and delicious food.
